We are pleased to welcome a new member to the practice, Riley. She is a golden retriever puppy that will be spending time in the office and will be trained to be a therapy dog. It is important that puppies are placed in the environment at an early age to get comfortable and familiar with the office. She will become certified as a therapy dog around her second year of life. She will be confined to Paula's front desk office until she is certified, and she will remain in the front office if patients would prefer not to see the dog. We encourage patients to greet the puppy to help her get familiar with patient interactions.
Riley turned a year old in June and has been doing a great job in the office. She remains confined to the front office, but comes out to greet patients on request. Patients have enjoyed her sweet personality and loving nature. She has passed her basic training and will start her second tier of training later this month to become a certified Canine Good Citizen. The Canine Good Citizen certification is the first certification towards her therapy dog certification. Training in treatment rooms with patients will begin later in the year and we look forward to the great things to come with our therapy dog in training!
