Who Should Get Fluoride Treatments?

Fluoride has many dental benefits that have been known for many years. The biggest benefit is its ability to prevent tooth decay. If you do not get enough fluoride in your diet, you could be prone to increased cavities.

One option is drinking water that is fluoride treated, or using fluoride-treated toothpaste and mouthwash. However, that is not always enough. Sometimes you need to go in and see your dentist about getting a fluoride treatment.

Could You Benefit from a Fluoride Treatment?

Most people would benefit from getting a fluoride treatment at their dentist's office. They are often given to children and seniors, but most adults would get a benefit from having them done.

The fluoride protects the teeth from all angles, and helps keep away problems that would normally lead to tooth decay. The more fluoride you have, the less likely you are to face tooth decay now, and in the near future. However, just because you get a fluoride treatment now, does not mean that you are going to be safe for the next decade. You have to keep going back and getting them.

Depending on just how healthy, or not, your mouth is, you may have to go back every 3-6 months for another fluoride treatment, or you may not need another treatment for 12 months or longer.

Talk to your dentist about whether or not you could benefit from fluoride. They may want you to come in and see what condition your mouth is currently in before deciding. The best thing you can do is make sure you drink tap water instead of bottled water, use fluoride-enhanced oral health products, and see your dentist regularly.

Then, your dentist can determine if you would be better off having regular fluoride treatments, or if your teeth are healthy enough on their own.

Please contact our office if you have any questions about fluoride treatments.
