Hobbies That Can Cause Damage to Your Smile.

added on: April 25, 2021

Nicholas Dose, DMD Family DentistryHaving the perfect smile is the goal for many people. Overall, it makes you feel good about yourself, and let’s face it, smiles are contagious. Having a daily routine has been recommended since the first time you saw a dentist.

Even when you do all the things you’re supposed to do, things can still happen. You can chip, crack, or break a tooth, and need it fixed right away. Keep in mind that even daily activities can cause damage to your teeth. He are some things you may not have thought about before.

Hobbies Can Hurt Your Smile

Having fun isn’t going to do any damage to your teeth, unless of course you have an accident. These kinds of things generally happen when we are outdoors. It is typical to require a mouth guard if you’re involved in sports. Sports have high interaction with other people that are moving fast around you. Realistically, just going for a walk can cause you problems if you trip and fall.

Jumping on a trampoline can be lots of fun until you bounce the wrong way. Riding a bike up and down some hills you’re not used to, even with a helmet, can hurt your teeth if you fall off. If you’re adventurous and like to do things like scuba diving, don’t be in a rush with all the heavy equipment you’re about to put on.

If in the event you happen to hit your mouth, make sure you take the time immediately to check for any damage. Your teeth are pretty strong and can hold up to a lot, but not getting things checked out can cause future problems. If you have a loose tooth, similar to when your baby teeth come out, that is a sign for concern.

Your gums most likely will tighten back around your tooth, but if it’s not sitting correctly, that’s where the problems can start. Only a dentist can make sure it sets properly, so you should try to come in and see us as soon as possible. If you have lost a tooth, if attended to quick enough, we can get your tooth back where it needs to be.
