How Ibuprofen Can Help Ease Dental Work Pain

Following any type of dental work, you may experience pain. This includes work like fillings, root canals, extractions, and even braces. One of the best options to help you manage the pain of these issues is ibuprofen.

It helps by not allowing you to feel as much pain, and also by helping to reduce the swelling that often accompanies dental work. Here are some of the best things you can get by using ibuprofen to minimize the pain you have.

Ibuprofen Eases a Lot of Pain

When your body gets hurt, the first thing it does is release prostaglandins. These substances are what are responsible for the pain you fee and the swelling you endure following any type of injury. Ibuprofen blocks these substances from being released in the first place.

This means that your body does not get to the point of feeling the pain or having the swelling that would normally accompany the procedure or injury. Within a few minutes of taking the dose, you will already begin to notice the pain-relieving effect of ibuprofen. It takes a bit longer to notice the anti-swelling effects, but they are present as well.

Following any type of painful dental work, we typically recommend you take ibuprofen every six hours during the first 24 hours so that you can stay ahead of pain and swelling. From there, you can take it as needed.

It is normally enough to keep the pain away and allow you to go back to living a normal life. Just do not do anything too rough to where you kickstart your pain all over again.
