What to Do if One of Your Teeth Partially Comes Out

added on: April 25, 2021

Hopefully, you will never find yourself in the position of suffering a traumatic injury to your teeth. However, statistics show that there is a very real possibility that, at some point in your life, you will lose some or all of a tooth to an injury.

If you have a tooth that is partially out of its socket, there are a few things to remember in order to maximize your chances of saving the tooth. Here is what you need to know.

First of All, Don’t Panic
When a tooth is partially out of its socket, you need every minute you can get. The longer the tooth remains in this condition, the more difficult it will be to save. So do your best to keep your wits. It won’t help you if you lose control and waste valuable time. Take a moment, calm down, and remind yourself that this is something you can handle.

Contact Us Right Away
The next thing you need to do is contact us. Depending on where you are, we may direct you to a dentist close to you, or we may try to see you ourselves. Call us and tell us what is going on.

Protect Your Tooth from Injury

You want to be sure that you don’t cause further injury to the tooth. The most common way for this to occur is for the tooth to move around in its socket. So pack the area around the tooth with clean gauze or cotton swabs. It will help immobilize the tooth and protect it from further injury.

If you are able to, you should immediately drive to the closest dentist if we are unable to see you. Simply go in and tell them it is an emergency. Taking these few steps can help save your tooth. So, if your tooth comes partway out, remember these tips.
